Doctor, tool and care sets. Short, repeatable scenarios — examine, fix, make better. These suit younger children precisely because the story is simple and can be repeated endlessly.

What to check before buying
Space. Larger kitchens, dollhouses and shop counters are furniture. They get built once and stay built. Check the assembled dimensions rather than the box photograph.
Piece count and storage. Role-play sets are full of small accessories — food items, tools, coins. A set with its own storage lasts; one without slowly loses half its pieces under the sofa.
Batteries. Tills with working scanners, kitchens with lights and sounds, and doctor sets with electronic features all need them. Check before the birthday rather than on the morning.
