Exploring Raziel’s Origins
This graphic novel, marking the first new content since 2003’s Legacy of Kain: Defiance, promises to delve deep into Raziel’s human history as a Sarafan warrior. The story will reveal the events leading to his transformation into a vampire under Kain’s rule. Fans can look forward to uncovering long-standing mysteries and being introduced to a significant new vampire character intricately linked to Raziel and Kain.
Collaboration and Creativity
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise is a collaborative project between Crystal Dynamics and Bit Bot Media. Written by Joshua Viola and Angie Hodapp, with stunning interior art by Juan Samu, the graphic novel features contributions from numerous talented artists. The creative direction is guided by Brent Friedman, with Crystal Dynamics providing insights from unreleased Soul Reaver lore.
“In college, I created a Soul Reaver poster for a class project, never imagining I would one day officially contribute to the franchise,” said Viola. “Even today, Raziel graces my tattoo sleeve—a testament to my deep connection with this universe. Fans can expect a project infused with that same passion. Working directly with creatives from Crystal Dynamics and reuniting with former collaborators makes this a truly special endeavor.”
Community and Future Prospects
The graphic novel will be crowdfunded on Kickstarter, with fans able to sign up on BackerKit for notifications on the campaign launch later this year. This initiative follows a 2022 survey by Embracer Group, which owns the IP, receiving an overwhelming response from over 100,000 fans, indicating strong interest in new Legacy of Kain games.
