The God of War actor has turned down the offer to play young Kratos

After the news about the remaster of the God of War trilogy, Christopher Judge, the voice actor of Kratos in the God of War game, revealed that he was offered the voice acting role for Young Kratos by the developers. In this proposal, he would have played the voice of Young Kratos, but out of respect for the previous actor, Terrence C. Carson, he declined the offer. In a recent interview with AbdBay, he mentioned that this decision does not signify stepping back or a lack of skills, but rather a choice made out of respect for Carson.

Santa Monica Studio intended to bring Christopher Judge’s voice closer to Carson’s and use Judge’s acting skills instead of Carson’s. Judge considered Santa Monica’s approach to be unfair to Carson and wanted to take the entire trilogy’s storyline forward as the character of Young Kratos. Christopher Judge stated, “The studio had asked him to audition for the voice of Carson for Young Kratos, recently released in the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC. However, he rejected this offer, feeling it would be disrespectful to Carson.”

Judge further explained, “Even if they had asked me, I would have said no. In fact, this opportunity was offered to me a while ago, and I had to turn it down because they wanted me to somewhat resemble the voice of that character, and I couldn’t fully commit to that. Christopher believes that imitating an actor or voice actor is not inherently a suitable approach because every artist must be able to create their own established characters; otherwise, the replacement of an actor won’t fulfill destiny.”

In the new DLC released for God of War Ragnarok, there is no news of Terrence C. Carson’s presence, and Christopher Judge has not accepted the role. More statements from Judge have not been published, and it is possible that conversations have already taken place with Carson on this matter. However, it is clear that Santa Monica has not had any discussions with Terrence C. Carson, and there is no indication of an offer for his collaboration in the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC.

It should also be noted that respecting Terrence C. Carson’s legacy is considered a form of respect for Christopher Judge. Otherwise, Judge has the necessary skills and talent to reconstruct the role of Young Kratos, and it is highly likely that he could reinterpret the role successfully. This decision has received positive feedback among actors and voice actors at a time when the gaming industry is increasingly moving towards using artificial intelligence to replace artists.
