According to a recent statement from Sony, several titles from this studio, including the game GTA V, will be leaving the PlayStation Plus service in June. Despite GTA 6 still being 18 months away from release, many expected GTA V to remain available for players to enjoy until the arrival of its successor. We’re all aware of GTA 5’s considerable sales success, with the latest reports confirming 200 million copies sold. However, Sony has announced in its latest statement that this acclaimed title by Rockstar is set to depart from PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now in June.

The PlayStation Plus service offers users an extensive and diverse catalog of games at very affordable monthly and annual rates. Sony typically adds various titles to its Extra and Premium tiers midway through each calendar month. In some cases, the service bids farewell to certain games, and it seems that highly popular titles have been added to this list. Push Square media has published this list, and the inclusion of GTA V has surprised almost everyone. This game was added to the PlayStation Plus catalog in December 2023 and usually, titles on this list remain in the system for at least a year. It was expected that the mentioned title could serve as a profitable asset for Rockstar.
GTA V’s Departure from PlayStation Plus
If you’ve been playing GTA 5 on the Extra service and plan to continue playing GTA Online next month, there’s a positive note for you. Currently, you can purchase GTA Online separately, at half the cost of purchasing the full game on PS5. If you’ve previously played part of the game on your subscription, the conditions might seem a bit unfair, but it’s better to purchase the entire game, especially if you only intend to play online from now on.
GTA V is among the 12 titles confirmed to be leaving the PlayStation Plus service, alongside other notable titles like Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom. This month, PlayStation only mentioned its removals, while adding numerous games to its catalog, including Red Dead Redemption 2. It could be said that Rockstar didn’t want two of its major titles available on one subscription service, although the reasons behind these decisions might be more complex.
