4.3 million copies of the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion pack have been sold

The Cyberpunk 2077 expansion pack, known as Phantom Liberty, has sold over 4.3 million copies. According to statements from the development studio, this success aids them in expanding the Cyberpunk franchise more than ever.

Released on October 4, 1402, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Phantom Liberty, the latest adventure for gamers in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, was initially successful and managed to sell around three million copies in its first week alone. Now, approximately two months later, the expansion has sold about 4.3 million copies, satisfying CD Project’s expectations.

Adam Kicinski, the CEO of CD Project, commented on this achievement, stating, “We are delighted with the release of Phantom Liberty. The success of this expansion, alongside the 2.0 update introducing a series of enhanced features, has elevated gameplay in Night City to a new level of quality. As we plan to develop this franchise in the future, this is considered a significant achievement.”

However, the success of the Cyberpunk series is not solely attributed to its expansion pack. Last month, Adam Kiciński announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 25 million copies to date. Since the release of the game in 2023, it has experienced much faster sales than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which, released in 2015, has sold 50 million copies to date.

It is expected that the performance of the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion pack, Phantom Liberty, will continue to improve. CD Projekt recently unveiled the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, which includes the base game, DLCs, and all updates released so far. This complete edition of the game is set to be released on December 5, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

However, with the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, CD Projekt’s involvement with the discussed title is coming to an end. In fact, CD Projekt will no longer release major updates for Cyberpunk 2077 and will shift its focus to other projects currently in development. Among these new projects is the sequel to Cyberpunk, which is still in the early stages of development.
