Fans of the Age of Empires series have long been awaiting the release of a mobile version, and an official title will soon be launched. World’s Edge studio has released new information about the Age of Empires mobile game, indicating that the new game is designed to be similar to the console and PC versions. This game is expected to be released for Android and iOS in late 2024, possibly during the summer.
The development of the free-to-play Age of Empires mobile game is undertaken by TiMi studio, the creator of Call of Duty Mobile, under the supervision of Tencent, in collaboration with World’s Edge studio, which is owned by Xbox. Early access registration for the new game is available, indicating that testing phases will begin in limited countries soon, followed by a global release.

The gameplay of Age of Empires mobile closely resembles the PC version. If you’ve experienced Age of Empires 2, you know it involves fast-paced battles, real-time strategy, building bases and castles, and multiplayer online battles. The game is fully optimized for mobile screens, offering a mobile-specific gaming experience with army control via touch screen. It’s worth noting that acceptable content has been prepared for the game, with great historical figures such as Julius Caesar, King Arthur, Hannibal, Cleopatra, and others featuring prominently in the campaign storyline. Developers have promised online battles with multiple players, offering an experience similar to the PC version.

The General Manager of TiMi studio commented on the new game, expressing their team’s desire to provide a PC-like experience with this grand gaming series. This isn’t the first time Microsoft has attempted to bring its major games to the mobile platform. Age of Empires: World Domination was released for mobile in 2015 but was officially shut down about a year after release. This time, they’ve entered the mobile market with the assistance of Tencent, whose partner, TiMi, has considerable experience in this field.
World’s Edge studio directly oversees the game’s production, ensuring the series’ distinct style of Age of Empires games is preserved. However, there’s a Chinese game called Return to Empire, developed by TiMi studio. Still, the General Manager clarified in a recent statement that there are significant differences between their previous strategic game and the new project, and they are not independently developing a game but rather executing the directives of World’s Edge studio.
